DenDD
Drilling Detergent
DenDD Drilling Detergent is a special aqueous blend of surface-active agents used in water-based drilling fluid systems. It reduces the surface tension of the drilling fluid and minimizes the sticking tendency of reactive shale cuttings.
Applications
DenDD is compatible with water-based drilling fluid systems. It reduces the surface tension of the drilling mud system and minimizes the sticking tendency of water-sensitive shales and clays to the drilling assembly. This helps to minimize bit and bottom-hole assembly (BHA) balling, which increases the rate of penetration.
Typical Properties
Appearance @ 25 °C
Colorless liquid
Specific gravity
1.02-1.04
pH
6 - 8
Solubility in water
Completely soluble
Recommended Treatment
Normal treatments range from 0.1 to 0.2 lb/bbl. To address bit balling or the need to clean downhole tools of mud debris, DenDD can be used with concentrations of 1 to 3% vol/vol. It is needed to soak the Drilling Detergent pill in downhole for at least 20 minutes. While soaking, applying drill pipe rotation is advised.
Product attributes and advantages
- Reduces surface tension of the liquid phase
- Reduces the sticking tendency of reactive shale cuttings
- Minimizes bit and BHA balling
- Freeze-resistant to -15°C
Limitations
- May cause foaming issues in case of over-treat.
- It may have unwanted effects on rheological characteristics when added to the active circulating system, and it is better to be used as pills.
