Spotting Fluids
DenFree
DenFree is a high-performance spotting fluid designed to break down filter cakes and release stuck downhole tools. It is a blend of organic surfactants, emulsifiers, and wetting agents that dehydrate and crack filter cakes, allowing the spotting fluid to penetrate between the drillstring and the formation. The product also wets and lubricates the drillstring, reducing the pull-out force required to free stuck pipes. DenFree is particularly effective for differential stuck pipe incidents and should be pumped as pills for optimal performance rather than added to active mud.
Applications
DenFree cracks filter cakes, increases filtration rate, and reduces the force required to free stuck pipes. The additive penetrates water-based mud filter cakes with a high-fluid-loss, solids-free filtrate, reaching the interface between the stuck pipe and wellbore wall. It is particularly effective for differential stuck incidents with thick filter cakes and can be applied in drilling and casing operations.

Recommended Treatment
In case of a stuck pipe, a diesel-based spotting pill containing 2–3 gal/bbl of DenFree should be prepared. For weighted pills, the table provided in this data sheet can be used.
The DenFree pill should be allowed to soak downhole for 4–6 hours to achieve maximum effectiveness. During this period, jarring and working on the stuck pipe is recommended.
